This question was asked to me by an friend. And here is the answer.
For every kind of interview there are some common things you need to be careful about. Like your dress, body language, pronunciation etc. These general issues will be dealt in separate post. Here i am giving you an idea how to build your knowledge base for an medical writing and medical research job and nail the interview once you get the chance.
Medical writing involves mainly outsourced work to India, where you are supposed to prepare, organize and check medical related data and documents. Records could be related to patient treatment, health insurance or clinical trial etc. Medical writing also involves writing scientific articles. eg. excel lifesciences, max bupa etc
Medical research and Analytics, or Pharma Analytics: These companies do market research, clinical trials research, pharmacovigilance studies for their clients. These companies also sell collected and organized data to clients. eg. Evalueserve, bioexcel and value edge, iTas etc
For medical writing and medical research, apart from your bio-data, questions will be asked from these subjects;
1. Pharmacology
2. Anatomy and physiology
3. Clinical trials
4. Prescription terms
5. Basics of Microsoft office
6. Knowledge about company,company focus sectors, and general healthcare scenario in countries of company operation- Questions from pharmacology are asked most, like mechanism of action, classification and major side effects. Also read composition of common popular household brands like vicks, combiflam, revital, volini etc. For theory KD tripathi is enough
- For anatomy and physiology read any anatomy book. Read names of bones, blood groups, blood circulations, structure of heart etc
- Clinical trial phases and clinical trial design etc
- Prescription terms like BD, OD, Rx etc
- Microsoft office with focus on excel and word
Please note: In medical research company involved in clinical trials you need to focus more on study of clinical trials and excel.
Also visit company website to see focus areas of a company. For example a company mainly may have work related to diabetes and antibiotics. The interviewer of that company will likely ask questions from these areas to test your suitability for job.
Suggestions for improvement of post are welcome
