All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) Pharmacist recruitment is done through CBT exam. Syllabus and Scheme of AIIMS Pharmacist recruitment exams as in 2023, is explained in this post.

Scheme for recruitment in various AIIMS across India is given for Pharmacist Grade 2, Dispensing Attendant, Pharma Chemist and storekeeper (Drugs) posts.

AIIMS Delhi Pharmacist Syllabus & Pattern

Duration of Examination: 1.5 hrs. (90 minutes)

Scheme of Examination:

  1. 100 MCQs of 100 marks with four alternatives for each question (25 MCQ- Related to Aptitude / General Knowledge / Awareness 75 MCQs- Related to Subject)
  2. There will be negative marking of 1/3 marks for each wrong answer.
  3. The qualifying marks in Recruitment Examination will be:
  • 50% for UR/EWS
  • 45% for OBC
  • 40% for SC/ST

For PWBD 5% relaxation will be given irrespective of the category (as per post advertised in the advertisement). According to qualifying marks for URPWBD will be as follows: – UR-PWBD – 45%

Syllabus of AIIMS Delhi Pharmacist Examination: The syllabus will be in accordance with education qualification and experience as mentioned in the advertisement.

Resolution of Tie Cases: In cases where more than one candidate secures equal MARKS, tie will be resolved.

  • ii) If not resolved by (i), the number of wrong answers / negative marks will be used wherein those with less wrong answers / negative marks will be placed higher.

  2. There will be negative marking of 0.25 marks for each wrong answer.
  3. The qualifying marks in Recruitment Examination will be:
  • UR 40% (for all UR category posts)
  • OBC-NCL/ EWS 35% (only for posts reserved for them)
  • SC/ST/ PwBD/ Ex-SM 30% (only for posts reserved for them) depending on upon the requirement of the Institute / availability of candidates for the posts.

PwBD candidates will be eligible for scribes and compensatory time as per the Govt. of India rules on production of valid requisite certificates.

  • By date of birth: older candidate will be placed higher in the order of merit.
  • By alphabetical order in which the names of the candidates appear.

Duration of Examination: 100 minutes

Scheme of Examination:

  1. 100 MCQs of 100 marks with four alternatives for each question
  2. There will be negative marking of 0.25 marks for each wrong answer.

Syllabus of AIIMS Bhatinda Pharmacist Examination: The syllabus will be in accordance with education qualification and experience as mentioned in the advertisement.

Resolution of Tie Cases: In cases, where more than one candidate scores equal aggregate marks, the tie will be resolved by the following method:

  1. First by using number of wrong answers / negative marks in the objective type written examination wherein the candidate(s) with less wrong answers / negative marks will be placed higher.

AIIMS Raipur Pharmacist Syllabus & Pattern

Duration of Examination: 1.5 hrs. (90 minutes)

Scheme of Examination

  1. 100 MCQs of 100 marks with four alternatives for each question

Part-I: 25 Marks

Questions will be mixed of general knowledge and awareness, fundamentals of computer applications and internet, English comprehension, quantitative aptitude and general intelligence & reasoning ability.

Part-II: 75 Marks

Questions will be based on the domain knowledge/ concerned subject of the post. It will be as per the eligibility criteria of the post given in the advertisement.

  1. (25 MCQ- Related to Aptitude / General Knowledge / Awareness 75 MCQs- Related to Subject)
  2. There will be negative marking of 0.25 marks for each wrong answer.
  3. The qualifying marks in Recruitment Examination will be:

PHARMACEUTICS I

Introduction of different dosage forms. Their classification with examples-their relative applications. Familiarization with new drug delivery systems. Introduction to Pharmacopoeias with special reference to the Indian Pharmacopoeia.

Metrology – System of weights and measures. Calculations including conversion from one to another system. Percentage calculations and adjustment of products. Use of alligation method in calculations, Isotonic solutions.

Packaging of pharmaceuticals – Desirable features of a container and types of containers. Study of glass & plastics as materials for containers and rubber as a material for closure-their merits and demerits. Introduction to aerosol packaging.
Size reduction, objectives, and factors affecting size reduction, methods of size reduction- study of Hammer mill, ball mill, Fluid energy mill and Disintegrator.

Size separation-size separation by sifting. Official standards for powders. Sedimentation methods of size separation. Construction and working of Cyclone separator.

Mixing and Homogenization – Liquid mixing and powder mixing, Mixing of semisolids. Study of silverson Mixer-Homogenizer, planetary Mixer; Agitated powder mixer; Triple Roller Mill; Propeller Mixer, colloid Mill and Hand Homogeniser. Double cone mixer.

Clarification and Filtration-Theory of filtration, Filter media; Filter aids and selection of filters. Study of the following filtration equipments-Filter Press, sintered filters, Filter candles, Metafilter.

Extraction and Galenicals

  • Study of percolation and maceration and their modification, continuous hot extraction-Application in the preparation of tinctures and extracts.
  • Introduction to Ayurvedic dosage forms.

Heat process-Evaporation-Definition-Factors affecting evaporation-study of evaporating still and Evaporating pan.

Distillation-Simple distillation and Fractional distillation, steam distillation and vacuum distillation. Study of vacuum still, preparation of purified water I.P. and water for Injection I.P. construction and working of the still used for the same.

Introduction to drying process-Study of Tray Dryers; Fluidized Bed Dryer, Vacuum Dryer and Freeze Dryer.

Sterilization-Concept of sterilization and its differences from disinfection-Thermal resistance of microorganisms. Detailed study of the following sterilization process.
Sterilization with moist heat, Dry heat sterilization, Sterilization by radiation, Sterilization by filtration and Gaseous sterilization.

Aseptic techniques-Applications of sterilization process in hospitals particularly with reference to surgical dressings and intravenous fluids. Precautions for safe and effective handling of sterilization equipment.

Processing of Tablets-Definition; different type of compressed tables and their properties. Processes involved in the production of tablets; Tablets excipients; Defects in tablets; Evaluation of Tablets; Physical standards including Disintegration and Dissolution. Tablet coating-sugar coating; films coating, enteric coating and micro-encapsulation (Tablet coating in an elementary manner).

Processing of Capsules-Hard and soft gelatin capsules; different sizes of capsules; filling of capsules; handling and storage of capsules. Special applications of capsules.

Carbohydrates: Brief chemistry and role of carbohydrates, classification, qualitative tests, Diseases related to carbohydrate metabolism.
Lipids: Brief chemistry and role of lipids, classification and qualitative tests. Diseases related to lipids metabolism.

Incompatibilities in prescriptions– study of various types of incompatibilities-physical, chemical and therapeutic.
Posology– Dose and dosage of drugs, factors influencing dose, calculations of doses on the basis of age, sex, surface area and veterinary doses.
Dispensed Medications: (Note: A detailed study of the following dispensed medication is necessary.
Methods of preparation with theoretical and practical aspects, use of appropriate containers and closures.

Biphasic Liquid Dosage Forms:
Suspensions (elementary study)-Suspensions containing diffusible solids and liquids and their preparations. Study of the adjuvant used like thickening agents, wetting agents, their necessity and quantity to be incorporated, suspensions of precipitate forming liquids like tinctures, their preparations and stability. suspensions produced by chemical reaction. An introduction to flocculated /non-flocculated suspension system.

Emulsions-Types of emulsions, identification of emulsion system, formulation of emulsions, selection of emulsifying agent. Instabilities in emulsions, preservation of emulsions.

Semi-Solid Dosage Forms:

 Syllabus of General Awareness/Aptitude Section 

General awareness section is present in AIIMS Delhi and AIIMS Raipur pharmacist exams. AIIMS Delhi doesn’t ask English comprehension. Syllabus given below is from AIIMS Raipur.

In this part of CBT, the nature and standard of questions will be such that an educated person of ordinary prudence will be able to answer them without any specialized study. Questions in this part (Part-I) of CBT will be related to the following.

  1. General knowledge and awareness: (10 marks)

 Questions in this component will be to test candidates’ general awareness and knowledge of current events as may be expected of any educated person. The test may include questions relating to about AIIMS, Indian Geography (10th level), General Science (10th level), Governance in India, prevalent general policies of Govt, of India on various matters, national & international current affairs. Few questions may be related to fundamentals of computer peripherals/ applications/internet.

 

  1. English comprehension (Class 10th level): (05 marks)

Candidates’ ability to understand correct English/basic comprehension would be tested. Test may include questions relating to correct use of tense, verb, preposition, synonyms, antonyms, spotting errors, spelling/detecting misspelled words, voice, and parts of speech.

 

  1. Quantitative aptitude (Class 10th level): (05 marks)

The questions will be to test the ability of appropriate use of numbers and number sense of the candidate. The scope of the test will be the computation of whole numbers, decimals, fractions, Average, Percentage, Mensuration, Ratio & Proportion, Square & Square roots, Profit and Loss, Time and distance, Time & Work.

 

  1. General intelligence & reasoning ability: (05 marks)

This component may include questions on analogies, similarities and differences, series completion, direction, relationship concepts, arithmetical reasoning, non­verbal series, coding and decoding etc.
