Opening Of New Pharmacy Institutions Stopped For 5 Years

PCI has put moratorium on opening of new pharmacy colleges for next five years. Moratorium will be valid from year 2020-2021. So it will be valid up-to academic year 2024 -2025. Recent mushrooming of pharmacy college is a valid concern.
What this moratorium covers? This moratorium is applicable on diploma as well degree pharmacy courses. North east region is not covered in this because there is lack of pharmacy colleges in northeast. So no new college can start a D. Pharm or B. Pharm course.
Reasons behind the moratorium. PCI in moratorium itself has clarified the reasons as follows.

• With more than 2 lakh annual intake, pharmacist workforce is enough to meet population need.
•  There is shortage of qualified and trained teachers effecting quality of education.
• Passed out students do not have enough job opportunities and are not reasonably paid.
